PVP sucks. Kurtz often comes off as quite annoying.
I have always had a very strong dislike for PVP...not just Scott Kruz, I'd heard he was kind of pompous before I first really read it, but I just don't like his comic...but I don't really like most of those "joke of the week" video game comics.

Dude, people were asking him how he did it, and he answered their questions. Most people don't know how comics are made, just like most people don't know the intracacies of making our favorite tv shows. Lay off Scott for educating his fanboys. (wow, I did a rant without cursing, that's original) -Batdan
Wow. You're really acting like a baby, Dude.
At no point during my tutorial did I claim that the process was some sort of greek magic handed down to me by the Gods. If anything I went out of my way to make the whole thing seem quite silly and easy.
What are you really upset about, here? I can't see any reason for you to dislike my post or to have trouble reading through the comments beyond being upset that something similar isn't happening on your site.
Nobody said my inking digitally was a big deal. I'm just sharing my process.
Suck it up.

Okay, so what's the point in dumping on someone just because you don't approve of their personality? I can MAYBE understand making a joke or two on someone else's behalf if they're behaving in a goofy/stupid/whatever manner. But to be so hostile about it? I don't get it. I guess maybe you have to be an angry person at heart to drum up that kind of aggression about something that has no impact on you or was directed at you.
Is it Desperate Housewives that hits your masculinity, or the fact that you sob through Grey's Anatomy? :P

Drastic, you really dont have much credentials that lends me to see the merits of your opinion. Your art sucks, humor is bland and storyline is somewhat forced.
Seriously, man - grow up...

First off... I've only just seen your comic from another link I found today. I don't favor any one comic. Some have their good and bad days. Yes, I am somewhat of a PVP fan but not so much that I would run to Scotts rescue anytime someone said shit about his strip.
After reading your comics, your comments and through alot of your material on here I do have this to say about you. You're no less of an attention grabbing 12 year old than Kurtz is you jackass. Who are you to call the kettle black? The diffrence with you is that your an attention grabbing 12 year old with a huge fucking chip on your shoulder.
Whoopdee fucking doo... you know how to use a tablet and don't have to tell the world about it. Frankly your art sucks ass. Maybe you should try picking up a pencil and sketching it out first before you throw your acidic diatribes out to a world who could give a fuck less about how little you love PVP or anyone else you might find to be a threat to your precious "medium". Learn to draw, get a sense of humor (you have none), and spend a few hours whittling that chip on your shoulder into something more constructive like a better vocation for yourself... or hobby or whatever you trendy, uptight, narrow minded indie online comic fucks call your habit these days. This is why Kurtz will always be a better man than you, he isn't your typical indie comic ass who hates everything and everyone unless they fit into the very narrow mold you consider "normal". He just is... he's a normal down to earth person who does his thing and does it well. So what if he wants to put out a video on youtube? Why should you care? You don't give a flying fuck about anything else?
And yes I love the word "Fuck" it just feels so good to say. Ha ha to all the one word vocabulary jokes I'm sure to be handed with from you mindless morons who enjoy this crap.
I'd gladly read PVP anyday... at least it knows how to laugh at itself and at the world without strangling anyone who threatens it.

There's nothing wrong with bashing your competition. Frankly, if I were a writer, I would kill all other writers while they sleep. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!
Drastic and PVP are in no way competitors. PVP's daily readership?? 150,000. Drastic's is around 400.
Scott is literally LEAGUES ahead of me. There is no contest. Scott wins.

I've never heard of your comic before today, but I have to say, it totally fucking sucks. I'd be much less inclined to say that outright if you weren't such a complete jackass. Yes, I came here through a link at PVP, and yes, I read PVP. I'm not really a fan of it, but I read it on occasion and it's sometimes pretty decent. The art, at least, is consistent and competent.
Your comic is (a) not funny, (b) badly drawn, and (c) you're a tool. I can't figure out why Scott Kurtz would even bother to come here and respond to you, as your criticism of him was completely asinine. You're obviously jealous, whether you care to admit it or not.

a)Drastic is a hundred times funnier than PVP b)The art on Drastic far better than PVP and most other webcomics for that matter. c)You're a cocksmoker. HAHA bitch!
frankly, i read both strips although i do enjoy one of the two more (but i wont get into this, it doesn't color my judgment here). Adam, this is seriously uncalled for, man! You're the one who's coming through as the 12-year old for lashing out at Scott for... what exactly? I have no idea how to digitally ink, i would find a tutorial interesting. I don't even know what a Wacom is. he calls you to it in his post above and all you can reply is that 'i'm a baby? well you've been a baby in the past too'. Um, I 'm not making any sense of this :(

Wow, I've been watching the news; CNN, NBC, CBS and even Fox (god forbid) and I didn't see one news story about Scott making a big deal over his tutorial, go figure, maybe it's only a "big deal" if you hang out at the same five websites all day.
What does any of this have to do with you? Do you want to make your own tutorial? If you do, you should get to it, 'cause you never know when they'll option his tutorial for a major motion picture, and think of how pissed you'll be then. "I want my movie check!"
The world's getting ready to boil over, we're in the middle of a holy war, an asteroid is flying towards earth, and you're mad 'cause somebody made a tutorial full of stuff you thought they should already know? Wow, you must live a very sad, sad boring life. Pick up a book or go watch some TV, I think the internet is getting to you.

why did you have to bitch and moan about something so petty
"he made digital inking look hard! ARGH"
grow up man
fyi, youre art is good, but you need to work on the humor and storytelling, and make the girls look less like a dude
Okay, I'm coming to this ignorant on one side, so I can't discuss the merits of your comic, Slan, which may be the greatest thing in the world. Nor do I have any ill will towards you in any respect. I should also add I know as much about digital inking as I do about jock itch, which is to say, not very much.
But the Scott you've imagined bears no resemblance to the Scott Kurtz I know. I've met him many times, sat beside him for hours at signings, and corresponded with him for years now. I even co-wrote a PVP once, which delighted my son, let me tell you.
First, Scott is prone to self-parody, like a lot of great humorists I know. He often presents himself in a manner that might be off-putting, only to deliberately deflate himself a panel or paragraph later. I think it's a stretch to interpret all this self-poking as anything but what it is, an endless series of road signs saying not to take his comments any too seriously.
Second, I saw Scott right after he won the Eisner in the hallways at SDCC, and a more visably moved, appreciative and humble guy I don't think I could imagine.
And finally, before I start sounding like I'm describing the Pope, you ought really to hang around Scott's booth at any convention. The way he treats not only his readers, but his readers' families, should be a model for how these things are done. He is endlessly kind, generous, and patient.
I rant on the internet, Scott rants on the internet, and apparently, you do, as well. If we judge everyone solely by what they said on their blog or message board when something made them mad, I think everyone would get poor marks indeed, except Kurt Busiek.
Just giving my two cents--I think you've misread Scott quite egregiously.
That said, best wishes, and I will certainly check out your comic, and good luck in the future,
Gail Simone
Er, Gail - "Slan" is Irish for "Farewell". Dude's name is Adam.

It strikes me that you're picking a fight with Scott over nothing, purely because you recognize that he has gobs of readers, in order to draw some attention to your comic.
So I don't think I'll be reading it, today or any other day.

You have got a lot of talent, and it would be a shame if you spent your time being like the self-righteous street corner Christian who shouts out threats of eternal damnation at every passerby. I mean, I get what you're saying, and personally, what you wrote about Scott and PvP doesn't bother me at all. But I just don't like seeing you throwing your time away stressing yourself out over something small and giving yourself a headache trying to wrestle with anonymous comments that just refuse to see it your way. I would say "peace and love!" but that would be gaaaaaaaay.

Where would I be without livejournal drama? What would I be doing if I couldn't read people whining about others on the internet?
That's right, I'd still be in the basement in my underwear at the computer, but I'd be a lot more bored.
Shine on, you crazy diamond.
what we hate in others is what we hate in ourselves. yes, i know it's trite and whatever, but usually what people lash out at is what they're insecure about.
i think the debate is interesting... but you saying that kurtz validates your argument by replying in public isn't the most meritorious of points. i don't think he has any way to win this argument, mind you, other than ignoring it, but you can't insult him for fighting on your terms.
Not everyone knows how use a Tablet, or even ink on paper. If they plan on ever learning how, they'll need stepping stones- the best launch pad to learn software is a combination of experimentation and a GOOD TUTORIAL. If one more person decides they can do it based on this video, who is it hurting?
I honestly believe that you're just using controversy to get more attention, and thus a few more readers. Lo and behold, it's worked. The cycle of the internet moves on.
You post an opinion about Kurtz' tutorial and he sends his little fans to your LiveJournal to anonymously flame you. Typical.
It's the easiest thing in the world to spout off something hostile online and get attention from it, like Kurtz does. There's nothing new or amazing about countering criticism with "your parents were married". It takes absolutely no effort to get involved in flame wars and have your little online friends come running to your rescue.
I guess I just wanted to say that what you had to put up with here in the comments was ridiculous. Your opinion wasn't even that much of a rant. For online rants, yours was very mild, and this is, after all, YOUR journal.
I meant, of course, "your parents were related."

I'm going to admit right off the bat that I'm a PVP fan, but my reasons for responding are that I feel Scott is always taken out of context and made out to be more hateful and arrogant than he truly is by a lot of people, although I will admit he tends to have a loud mouth at times.
All he did was post a sped up video of him inking his strip because people asked how he does it. He already did similar videos of his art process. It wasn't a tutorial, and it wasn't trying to make some profound statement. I really don't see how you could get so outraged by something so simple and unoffensive.
Then, after stating "Scott, if you're offended by this, good.", you berate him for defending himself in public. I'm sorry but it goes both ways: you could have easily used private methods to query about his motives but you chose to do so publically, so why can't he defend himself that way?
This seems to be an "axe to grind" sort of thing, seeing as how you even link to yet another diatribe full of misunderstanding: How you could accuse Scott of plagiarizing Ctrl-Alt-Del for something that was clearly an intentional parady is beyond me. (Never mind the irony of accusing someone of plagiarizing Ctrl-Alt-Del in general) To add to that, he shut off the blog posts for an entirely different reason, once again for being misunderstood. (People attacked him for being arrogant for belittling fan art sent to him, when he thought it was pretty clear that it was all in good fun, seeing as how the "fan art" was made by Gave of Penny Arcade.)
Anyways, I'm not going to be a typical fanboy and spew "your comic is garbage and you're just jealous" rants. But I do say that your baseless attack turns me off of checking out your comic, at least with an open mind.

Uhm, I have a Wacom, been happy with it for a while. But prior to the Wacom I did traditional brush and ink work. It's the not the same, seriously. I LOVE my Wacom, don't get me wrong, but it's not the same. I like how Scott did the video, it's just another peek into another artist's techniques. I mean, I've seen Gabe (Penny Arcade) post videos of his stuff being inked and colored before and I was quite happy that he did. It shows an artist's process and leave room for me to evaluate my own and see if I can take something away from it. You're blowing it out of proportion Adam, and I don't want to hear any snarky comments, I read both of these comics and check both on an almost daily basis.
Seriously dude, chill out.

I think that you might do well, Adam, to take your own "breathe deep and relax" advice. Through the wonders of Cut-and-Paste™ technology, allow me to quote Kurtz from his blog:
"So today I screen-captured myself inking the strip. I’ve added some silly fluff to the beginning and the end of it. That way you guys know I don’t take myself, or my art, too seriously."
Nowhere in the video nor in the blog post corresponding to the video does Kurtz refer to it as a "tutorial." That's your description of it, Adam. The "Learn With Skull" aspect of the video is CLEARLY meant to be humorous.
Come on, man...

You're a dick, aren't you? Don't hide it, you know it's true. Congratulations on "pushing the limit" with your carbon copy comic. It's certainly never been done before, and it's nothing like anything I've ever seen before. I find it remarkable just how childish someone can be while purporting that someone else is childish. Something tells me you're just a tad jealous of Scott's success, especially given how much you care about popularity (ie "incentives" to vote for your comic). Look at the comics featured on Buzz Comics. And you're not even as good as them! Remarkable. Move out of your parents basement and get a real life, tool.
*gasp* zOMG! Another web comic artist shared his artistic processes?! Quickly, I suggest you run and get down the throats of Brian Clevinger of 8-Bit Theatre, among others. You should also chastise his attention whoring.. or perhaps that would have been more appropriate at Christmas when he did said tutorial.
Face it, you're throwing this fit because you don't like PvP, and you don't like Kurtz. Oh, and by the way.. it's typically the claim of 'not being jealous' or anything of the sort that makes it look like you're fronting. By visibly claiming your so-called impartiality, you pretty much give up all pretense at it.
I'm pretty sure anyone who was reading all the posts can figure out who the 'attention grabbing 12 year old was'. Name calling is the surest sign of someone trying to weakly debate because they have no factual way of attacking the issue.
